Friends Foundation Inc, is a purpose designed affiliation of Friends of The Care Project as a brand new independent non-profit organization through which we will be able to help mentally and physically challenged children and their families living throughout the whole nation. In addition to supporting The Care Project, Friends Foundation will also comprise of the following arms:
• Community Outreach Program is another avenue to provide services to children and young adults. The community clinics, pediatricians and schools send referrals to us of children who show signs of developmental delays. We provide comprehensive assessments, consisting of diagnosis, intervention and recommendations that are suitable for at home and in school, to the families. After the assessments, we offer 1:1 therapeutic services (physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy) to the children. Additionally, we teach functional skills to young adults with developmental delays or learning difficulties.
• Friends Development Centre a fully functional school facility for differently abled children of Antigua and Barbuda identified through the Outreach Program or living at The Care Project. This is a unique facility in Antigua and Barbuda and indeed the Caribbean, providing a fantastic place to learn, be stimulated and make new friends.
Through focusing on early intervention and targeting all children under 16, Friends Foundation Inc will provide educational and therapeutic services, training workshops for parents and nurses and counselling services. We are also able to assist nurses in community clinics to further improve the care provided to children with special needs across all of Antigua. We believe that Friends Foundation Inc and Antigua and Barbuda will be at the forefront leading a shining example to other Caribbean nations on how we can all help differently abled children grow and develop, realizing their full potential.
